We’re looking for a Senior MSSQL Database Administrator to own the reliability, performance, and security of our large-scale SQL Server estate. You will design and operate highly available data platforms, lead upgrades and migrations, drive observability and automation, and partner closely with engineers to deliver resilient, compliant, and performant data services.
- Lead SQL Server upgrade programs from planning through execution and validation
- Design, implement, and maintain Always On Availability Groups with robust HA/DR runbooks
- Tune performance for very large databases and high-frequency transaction workloads
- Engineer data lifecycle strategies including partitioning, archiving, and hot/warm/cold tiers
- Own backup and recovery strategies that meet strict RPO/RTO targets and are regularly validated
- Establish and refine observability with enterprise monitoring tools and SRE-aligned practices
- Harden security and governance, including TDE, DDM, access controls, and least-privilege models
- Automate operational tasks with T-SQL and scripting to improve reliability and reduce toil
- Partner with developers via GitHub to review SQL changes and promote best practices
- Mentor and upskill engineers while creating clear, living documentation of processes
What it takes to succeed:
- Proven experience leading SQL Server upgrades, e.g. 2016 to 2022
- Hands-on history building resilient HA/DR solutions with Always On Availability Groups
- Track record managing 15TB+ estates and tuning high-throughput transactional systems
- Expertise in security and governance including TDE and Dynamic Data Masking
- Experience with data lifecycle management including partitioning and archiving
- Proficiency designing backup and restore strategies that meet strict RPO/RTO targets
- Experience with observability tools and SRE-aligned monitoring practices
- Strong T-SQL skills for automation and operational tooling
- Familiarity with GitHub workflows to review and collaborate on database code changes
- Excellent documentation and cross-team communication capabilities
Education and Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in database administration, with advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server
- Nice to haves: Compliance & Regulatory experience; AWS and IaC expertise
