Senior Engagement Officer (Identified Position)

Established in 1981, SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national non-government peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. SNAICC’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families are protected, our communities determine their own futures, and our cultural identity is valued. We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children. 

SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas: 

• Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation 

• Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency. 

• Support for sector development, membership, and networking. 

• Full Time – 76 hours per fortnight
• Fixed term – 12 months (with potential for renewal)
• Location – Remote Working (Northern Territory)
• Salary – $117,792 - $123,171+ 12% super & salary packaging options

The Position:

The Senior Engagement Officer will lead SNAICC’s engagement with Aboriginal communities and organisations in the Northern Territory for this work, establishing strong working relationships with SNAICC members across the jurisdiction and working collaboratively to deliver engagement within the required timeframe and budget. The incumbent will also contribute to the team’s policy advice, briefings, reports, submissions, resources and other project documentation.

We are looking for someone who:

• Identifies as an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander person
• Has strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers, and has demonstrated capacity to research, analyse, understand and write concisely about complex social policy issues
• Demonstrates a deep understanding of, and ability to, work in partnership with the Aboriginal community-controlled sector within the Northern Territory.
• Has demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community members on policy, programs/projects, advocacy and/or research initiatives, and possesses the ability to translate the views and voices of community into practical and impactful recommendations for governments.
• Ability to work as part of a virtual team from diverse cultural backgrounds, to manage competing demands and to seek and offer support as appropriate.

• Undergraduate Degree and/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in relevant policy, research, project/program and/or advocacy fields.
• Working with Children Check
• Current police check (no older than three months)
• Current Driver’s License
